Rathbaun Farm, Galway Ireland

At Rathbaun Farm in County Galway, guests are always welcomed like family. It is the family home of shepherd Fintan Connolly who grew up in the thatched room farm house. Our visit to the farm began with an Irish cheese tasting. Then we put an apron on and made scones. After enjoying the scones we went outside for fresh air with Fintan the shepherd, who told us sheep in Ireland are raised for their meat, not the wool. We saw the wool being shared from the sheep and could see that it was too course to use in clothing, so it is used for rugs and other non-clothing items. We were also allowed to bottle-feed baby lambs. Then Fintan demonstrated his working dog's ability to herd sheep. We all cheered when the Border Collie chased the sheep into a nearby pen.
